Mr. Smith is a Member of the firm and focuses his practice on civil litigation in Michigan’s state and federal courts. Since graduating from Wayne State University Law School in 2009, he has represented clients in all stages of litigation across a variety of matters, including contact claims, fraud, common law and statutory conversion claims, conspiracy claims, claims under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (“RICO”) Act, business torts, restrictive covenant litigation, actions to enforce non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, trade secret litigation, and shareholder disputes, amongst others.
Mr. Smith also has significant experience in representing medical providers, practitioners, and accident-injury victims, in disputes with insurance companies. While this aspect of his practice frequently focuses on claims to recover payment of insurance benefits, Mr. Smith also defends clients in actions filed by insurance companies for declaratory judgment, rescission, and repayment of insurance benefits.
In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Smith serves as a case evaluator, and he is a trained civil court mediator. Mr. Smith has also been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Michigan’s Super Lawyers.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Smith proudly served as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Free Legal Aid Clinic, Inc. (FLAC).
